On the last day of the exhibition Creative Responses at Akureyri Art Museum, Vi\u00f0brag\u00f0s<\/em> people were welcomed to attend a symposium and artists talks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The focus was on creative responses as a basic element of life and on the importance of art when facing a changed world due to climate change and other environmental threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Au\u00f0ur A\u00f0alsteinsd\u00f3ttir, director of the University of Iceland's research center in \u00deingeyjarsveit, who curated the exhibition with \u00de\u00f3rd\u00eds A\u00f0alsteinsd\u00f3ttir, explained the ecocentric emphasis of the project Creative Responses.<\/em>She also exhibited photos from a community project where the artist Hrafnkell Sigur\u00f0sson created an outdoor sculpture from found material in M\u00fdvatnssveit and helped students from \u00deingeyjarsk\u00f3li make their own sculptures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sk\u00fali Sk\u00falason is a biologist who wrote the introduction to the exhibition catalogue, along with the philosopher Ole Martin Sandberg. At the symposium, Sk\u00fali talked about creative responses as the basis of all life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three of the exhibition artists elaborated on the ideas behind their works. a Sn\u00e6fellsj\u00f6kuls rawlings talked about the installation Motion to Change Colour Names to Reflect Planetary Boundary Tipping Points<\/em> (2025) og skrifa\u00f0i \u00ed votta vi\u00f0urvist undir till\u00f6gu s\u00edna um a\u00f0 breyta litan\u00f6fnum \u00feannig a\u00f0 \u00feau endurspeglu\u00f0u betur veruleika loftslagsbreytinga. Artist Hildur H\u00e1konard\u00f3ttir sent a video from Reykjav\u00edk where she explained the idea behind her work Creation<\/em> (2025), where the goddess Sophia plays a key role: \"Sophia turned out to be the mother of all creation and a symbol for the godly wisdom that creates the universe and gives flora, fauna and also people their life spirit and understanding. The work, which is still in process, aims to remind us of her legacy, rewriting her name into history and send into the universe.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bj\u00f6rg Eir\u00edksd\u00f3ttir ended the event with a talk on her video work Skyn<\/em> (2025) and by answering questions from the audience who had their own ideas on the role of art in contemporary environmental crises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
