Hrafnkell Sigur\u00f0sson, a guest artist at G\u00edgur, is currently working on a sculpture from found materials in the M\u00fdvatn area, in collaboration with local residents and sculpture students at \u00deingeyjarsk\u00f3li, on November 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hrafnkell Sigur\u00f0sson has long practiced environmental art, where landscape and nature \u2013 including the man-made environment \u2013 become part of the creative process and shape the artwork alongside the artist. In the M\u00fdvatn region, he is particularly interested in decommissioned agricultural machinery which, along with the work's location and setting, influences the final result. The interplay between mechanical materials and organic forms is a central theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hrafnkell has received materials and assistance from K\u00e1ri \u00deorgeirsson in Gar\u00f0ur, Gunnar Brynjarsson in Baldursheimur, and J\u00f3hann and Sigur\u00f0ur B\u00f6\u00f0varsson and Fri\u00f0j\u00f3n J\u00f3hannsson in Gautl\u00f6nd. \u00deorl\u00e1kur P\u00e1ll J\u00f3nsson has also assisted and participated in the design process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On November 21, <\/strong>there was an open house in Hrafnkell's studio in the shed at Sk\u00fatusta\u00f0ir, where people had the opportunity to see the artist at work and get an insight into the creation of the piece. The students' sculptures were also on display, as they had put the finishing touches on them earlier in the day with Hrafnkell's assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The process is both filmed and videotaped by Stefania Eir Vignisdottir and Gasa Kenny, and the unique landscape of the M\u00fdvatn region will play a major role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On November 25, Hrafnkell will participate in the event \"Chat about Environmental Art,\" held at G\u00edgur. Other participants include Bianca Maria, \u00d3lafur \u00der\u00f6stur Stef\u00e1nsson, Ana Stani\u0107evi\u0107, and Katarina Lepp\u00e4nen. The event is sponsored by the SSNE Development Fund and the Landsvirkjun Community Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A photograph of Hrafnkell's unfinished work, under the title Crescendo<\/em>, will be part of the exhibition Creative responses<\/em> at the Akureyri Art Museum, running from November 27 to February 8.<\/strong> There will also be sculptures by students from \u00deingeyjarsk\u00f3li on display, which they created in collaboration with Hrafnkel.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
